Another Brick

“What lies before us and what lies behind us are small matters compared to what lies within us.” –  Ralph Waldo Emerson

I know this guy. He seems upbeat, positive and happy on the surface. Deep down in his soul, he is not happy. Too many regrets. Bad memories of times, friends, and events that either ended sadly or never had the opportunity to blossom.

Seems he’ll never be able to right the wrong; never have the opportunity to say he’s sorry.

I think he tries not to think of these things. Most of the time he succeeds. However…….

I know this because I am his friend. He confided in me and, somehow, I wish he hadn’t.

His angst becomes another brick on my pile. I can hardly handle my own load. But, he is my friend and I will help him carry that brick

It can’t be right and just that a person has to suffer for life experiences over which they had no control.

  2. it is interesting that you bring that subject to your blog. I have a couple of friends In similar situations. Truth be known all humans carry regrets, I know I sure do. But sometimes we just have to find a way to keep those dark passengers in a sealed closet somewhere. The best way is if you can somehow keep him laughing. It helps my friends and me for sure. Maybe tell him things could be worse, like being married to Nancy Pelosi. And tell him it is never too late. We can’t change the past but we can make the best of the future.
